Why do you have to leave out your contacts a week before a lasik consultation?
- Category: Lasik Eye Surgery
I ask this because I was told this today by a doctor since im going in next week. I have had them in for a couple hours today. I will probably put them in for a couple hours over the next few days. How will this affect the test? I may have to reschedule. I cannot run with my glasses

contact lens over the cornea alters its shape to some extend. u need to discontinue ur contacts for a week till it comes to the original shape.
change in the shape of cornea leads to change in the refraction .
and proper refraction is required (for calculations or something )while operating for lasik.

You should stop wearing your lenses, because they affect the shape of the cornea. This may affect the accuracy of the measurements of your eyes before surgery and could consequently lead to inaccurate results.

i would be smart and reschedule. you need to leave the contacts out your eyes need Oxygen and if you have any cornea scratches they need to heal ask him what spk is… the doctor will know if you were wearing contacts or not .. and just to add that is why they are the doctor..
